Berlin classical painting: The Age of Velazquez

On a city tour of Berlin? Here is a must if you are into classical art: Berlin’s famed Gemäldegalerie (Paintings gallery) has a special treat to offer until the end of October: 150 masterpieces by Diego Velázquez, El Greco, Francisco de Zurbarán and Bartolomé E. Murillo, the outstanding artists of 17th century Spanish art. This era is named El Siglo de Oro – the Golden Age. The exhibition shows paintings and sculptures in all their intriguing variety. Many of these works are on display for the first time in Germany. During the exhibition an educational program and a series of concerts, movies and lectures will accompany the event at Berlin’s Kulturform, the venue of the Gemäldegalerie as well as the exhibition.

The same ticket gets you into the main collection of the Gemäldegalerie as well. This gallery presents one of the most outstanding collections of European paintings from the 13th to 18th century. It too is definitely worth a visit!
